I have been involved in Scout Alaska for about 10 years. I usually
start out at a location scout working on local, national, or
international T.V. commercials. Often after the location is set I
assist with talent and casting, coordination, production management,
and producing. When a Production Company wants to shoot in Alaska I
often take care of them from the time they land in Alaska until the
time they leave. This means finding locations, working out the
logistics of moving the crew, obtaining permits for filming, making
all air reservations within Alaska, hiring local crew, making hotel &
car rental reservations, hiring helicopters, assisting with the film &
camera package shipping, renting out my arctic gear if we are going to
Barrow or a remote winter location. Basically what ever needs to be
done, found, or obtained I assist with making the commercial come off
smoothly. I have a quite large inventory of location folders and a
large inventory of talent cards.
What I love about this business - I am paid to travel around the state
and take pictures. When Production Companies come to shoot in Alaska I
meet interesting and intelligent people who are worth knowing.
Sometimes we fly around in helicopters and film on glaciers,
occasionally we travel by boat or film from boats, or trains. I enjoy
the journey. |
